Mustang Polyurethane Motor Mount Swap

OK! You realize that it is time to go ahead and replace those worn out 30+ year old rubber motor mounts. Whether you are seeing some excessive motor movement, adding some horsepower, or just swapping out that 120ish hp I6 for a shiny new 400hp axel breaking V8, these polyurethane motor mounts are the way to go.

First off, why Urethane? Urethane is definitely more durable than rubber. It will handle more horsepower and outlast rubber 3 to 4 times. It is more resistant to chemicals and will not dry out, crack or separate like the factory mounts do in time. The Urethane mounts are closer to a solid mount in performance but still dampen the engine vibrations up the chassis. These mounts are based on the 1966 and up so they are a direct replacement for 1966 to 1973 Mustang.

The Urethane mounts are constructed a little different from the factory. The urethane is not only molded to the mount, but also boxed in by bolting a steel cover so that it cannot separate.

If you are swapping a 6 cylinder engine for a V8, or upgrading your 1965 motor mounts to the stronger design 1966 + style, you will need the 1966 style motor mount brackets that bolt to the lower shock tower. The 1966 brackets will bolt directly into the 1965 chassis using pre-existing holes. Looking at the motor mount brackets you can notice a little tab at the bottom of the face of the brackets. These tabs have to be ground off or bent flat in order to use the polyurethane mounts. If the engine is in place it is easy to install them one side at a time using a simple floor jack. Please refer to the shop manual for lifting your engine while in the engine bay.

While installing new polyurethane motor mounts, you can compliment them with a new polyurethane transmission mount. These are also direct bolt in.

I have installed polyurethane motor and transmission mounts over 4 years ago in both of my 1965 Mustangs, and they still look brand new. Polyurethane motor and transmisison mounts are available in either Black or Red coloring.
